SPIRALS CONDUCT

LAKEVILLE SPIRALS CODE OF CONDUCT

Attend practices on time. Notify the coach if you are unable to attend.

Attend meets. Show up on time for warm ups.

Give 100% to your development and your team!

Bring a positive attitude. Practice perfection.

Be respectful of the gym and it's equipment. We are very fortunate to have access to the North High School gymnastics gym. Let's treat the gym with respect and do our part to keep it in good condition.

Along with attending practices, meets and giving 100% all the time good sportsmanship plays an important role in being part of the Lakeville Spirals.

This is a great guideline for the girls to follow during a practice and a meet, not only as a team or an individual gymnast, but also as a role model to the Lakeville Gymnastics Booster Club program.

1. The "Golden Rule" -- Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

Show respect for others if you expect it yourself.

2. Have an understanding and an appreciation of the rules.

The spirit of good sportsmanship depends on conforming to the intent of the rules and not look for a loop hole.

3. Enjoy yourself and encourage enjoyment for others.

We compete for fun and recreation so lets make it that.

4. Take responsibility for your actions.

Do not blame others for your mistakes or find excuses for poor behavior.

5. Recognize and appreciate good performances.

Applause for an opponent's good performance demonstrates generosity and courtesy. It shows a true awareness of the sport and athletic ability.  Applause for your teammates performance demonstrates team unity.

6. Exhibit respect for the officials, teammates and opponents.

Judges are impartial arbitrators who perform to the best of their ability to make sure the competitions are fair and within the rules. Mistakes made by all those involved are part of competing and must be accepted. Respect your teammates, no matter their performance.  Everyone has different abilities and skills.  Everyone will have a good performance and a bad performance.  No one person on the team is responsible for a win or a loss.   Gymnastics IS a team sport and every gymnast on the team is crucial to the team's success! Respecting your opponents and their performance has a positive impact on your team as well.

7. Expect proper behavior from your teammates.

If you allow a teammate to cheat, to play dangerously, to argue and scream at officials, you are condoning that behavior. If you allow a teammate to speak negatively about another gymnast's performance, you are condoning that behavior.  Same rule applies to positive behaviors.  Cheering on a teammate or complimenting another gymnast/team speaks volumes! You can always find something positive and encouraging to say. Don't focus on the negative.

Examples of Acceptable behavior

  •  Cheer in a positive manner.
  •  Accept all decisions by officials without question.
  •  Applaud good performance by both teammates and opponents.
  • Applaud at the end of the contest for the performance of all participants.
  • Encourage all surrounding people (fans included) to display on sportsmanlike behavior.
  • Show concern for an injured player, regardless of team.
  •  Win with class - lose with dignity.

Examples of Unacceptable behavior

  • Use disrespectful or derogatory comments, cheers or gestures.
  • Criticize officials in any way - displays of temper over an officials call.
  • Make displays of temper when you or a teammate are not successful.
  •  Refuse to shake hands or recognize good play.
  •  Laugh or name-call.
  • Criticize other gymnasts on their performance.
  • Use profanity or display anger.

Final note

Every time we practice and compete, we are being watched. We may not realize it but someone, possibly a young impressionable person, is observing you, how you act and what you say.

Your behavior may have a significant impact, positive or negative, on the members of your team and the LGBC. Maybe what is seen and heard from you as a gymnast, will set a better example.

If we all perform to the best of our abilities within the concept of good sportsmanship, we should all have an enjoyable season.

The Lakeville Spirals are role models for the entire Lakeville Gymnastics Booster Club.  Your involvement is a privilege and you have earned the invitation to compete because of your hard work and dedication to gymnastics!
